Mary Kay – Cheek Duos? Don’t Mind If I Do!

Hair - Fontana Beauty Expert - November 13, 2015

Cheek Duos? Don’t Mind If I Do!

When I first saw the new Mary Kay® Mineral Cheek Color Duos I squealed with delight (in my head of course)!  Just looking at the pops of color made me feel happy…while I have to admit, I did wonder, “What will this look like on my face?!”  But as I always say, “It’s makeup, why not try it all?”

After trying them, I am absolutely IN LOVE with these colors. The highlighter adds that touch of healthy glow to my cheeks. Not only do they look so adorable in the compact, but the application is FANTASTIC!  The color payoff is great, I tend to go small and build up to my preferred desired look. And with a touch of the Mary Kay® Bronzing Powder in Light-to-Medium, I get that perfect sun-kissed look without the UV rays. For my fair skin, I picked 2 favorites – Juicy Guava and Ripe Watermelon. It’s also available in Spiced Poppy.  And doesn’t just saying those names make your mouth water?!?  Oh my, oh my, however will you choose?

Cheek Duos is definitely a do! Which one will you try first?

Sarah Pallohusky, Assistant Manager, US Product Marketing, has worked at Mary Kay for over 8 years.  There is no place she’d rather be!  After all, who can say they get to play with makeup for a living?!  Among being a great place to work, with great people, she loves the opportunity to support the Mary Kay sales force in helping to achieve their goals.

How do moisturize your skin with almond oil?

Hair - Fontana Beauty Expert - November 13, 2015

How do moisturize your skin with almond oil? Use sweet almond oil on your face for taking off your make-up or as a moisturizer. Try making your own almond face scrub. Soak a handful of raw almonds in water for a few hours, then grind them with a mortar and pestle, add some milk or yogurt to form a paste and use it as a face scrub. – prevention.com

Frequent blow drying can ruin the look of even the best haircut

Hair - Fontana Beauty Expert - September 30, 2015

Frequent blow drying or flat iron addiction can cause heat damage over time that can ruin the look of even the best haircut. This may be the most destructive hair-styling habit. It is what drives the professional finish, [but] you need to default to a heat protecting product. Hair care beauty tip: Use the right amount of a heat protectant, and it will appear to steam off under the flat iron. It looks like an alarming effect, but it’s the correct one. – Madeline Vann

Whenever a top model talks food and fitness, we listen

Hair - Fontana Beauty Expert - August 31, 2015

wenn22233435 When 62-year-old Beverly Johnson does it? We take copious notes.

As one of the original 1970s supermodels, Johnson cemented her place in the fashion hall of fame by becoming the first African-American model to appear on the cover ofVogue in 1974, and then made history again as the first black woman to front ElleFrance the following year. Oh, and the New York Times named this beauty one of the most influential people in the industry.

Now—with over 500 magazines covers to her credit—Johnson’s documenting what life’s like as one of the fashion’s biggest game-changers with a new book, The Face That Changed It All: A Memoir, which hits bookstores today.

To celebrate, we couldn’t wait to add this icon to our growing of list of beautiful, strong women of all ages who share a page from their daily food and fitness routine. Here’s what she came back with, so read on and take note.

I start an average day by:
Meditating.

For breakfast I had:
Warm water and lemon and a bowl of fresh strawberries.

For lunch I had:
Grilled chicken breast, steamed spinach, and water.

For dinner I had:
Filet mignon, asparagus, and water. Dessert was strawberries.

Today I snacked on:
Apples.

My go-to healthy drink is:
A cappuccino—coffee is good for the mind!

The one thing I would never eat is:
Chitterlings. [Ed note: for the uninitiated, chitterlings are pig small intestines—and are a delicacy in some cultures.]

My favorite workout is:
Golf—walking 18 holes is a workout.

My guilty pleasure food is:
Buttered popcorn.

The next big health and fitness trend will be:
Cross training, yoga and meditation all done on the same day.

My favorite healthy snack is:
Yogurt.

Some of the fitness blogs I love include:
Lana Kerr, Fat Loss Coach.

I’m obsessed with following:
Kim Kardashian on Instagram.

The three ingredients you’ll always find in my kitchen are
Garlic powder, sea salt, and olive oil.

My signature healthy dish is:
White fish and steamed spinach.

The health app I couldn’t live without is:
Your Fat Loss Coach.

The best part of my job is:
Helping and inspiring others to be the best they can be.

ORANGE BLUSH IS PRETTY MUCH PERFECT FOR BROWN SKIN

Hair - Fontana Beauty Expert - August 31, 2015

For a few months now, the talk around the town has been that orange blush is a very commonly over-looked beauty must-have for women of color. More specifically, women with darker skin have been questioning the idea of orange blush being the go-to for a flushed, sun glowing look.

It’s true that orange blush is a very easy way for women with darker complexions to add a very pretty, warming glow to their skin. But in all honesty, orange blush looks good on allbrown women. You just have to find your right shade of the color.

So, if this has been the case, why have us Brown girls passed by the hue for so long? Most likely from lack of knowledge and fear of the bright color. Let’s be honest: regardless of how pretty it looks packaged and presented to us in stores, orange blush is kind of intimidating.

Always remember this rule of thumb: most of the time, bright eye shadows and blushes look amazing on darker skin because of the balance it creates. Don’t be afraid to try these colors, and don’t shy away just because it looks “too bright” in the packaging. What you see packaged, especially when it comes to shadows and blushes, will 9 times out of 10 never look that way on your skin tone. This is why beauty brick and mortars like Sephora let you try the products out before purchasing, and also have flexible return policies.

Here’s a list of the best orange blushes for brown skin.
