In every industry there are persons who have climbed to the peak. The greats. The persons you look up to and say “I want to be like her.” When it comes to Makeup Artistry in Jamaica, Loni Jones is one of those greats who you’d love to be an understudy for, just to learn how she creates her masterpieces with the manipulation of brush, cream and powder.
Once you’ve spent time around Loni you really can’t help but love her. She’s driven, always open to new places and experiences and her aura kinda just pulls you in. Plus, look at that smile! Now the mother of the most adorable twin boys Lao and Leno, Loni is proving that there’s no slowing down for her. I got the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her life at home and behind the brushes and just couldn’t pass it up.
Q: How did you get into makeup and how long have you been a Makeup Artist?
A: Makeup started out in art school for me. A true makeup artist knows that when it comes to color and light in painting, it applies in makeup as well. The difference is the canvas! I’ve been doing makeup for 10+ years.
Q: What is your personal go-to makeup look?
A: Clean and minimal. Mascara, eye liner a bit of under eye concealer, bronzer and a nude lip.
Q: What do you find is a good drugstore dupe for a high end items that you love?
A: Maybelline mascaras! No other mascara is as popular as this compared to a Lancôme or Givenchy.
Q: What is your favourite makeup trick?
A: Hmmm.. Not sure I have one!
Q : Which (locally sold) brand of foundation do you use the most?
A: Mostly Makeup Forever (MUF) and MAC foundations.
Q: What advice would you give aspiring Makeup Artists?
A: Don’t get caught up in the perks, stay focused!
Q: Congrats on your handsome twin boys! What items do you find useful when caring for them?
A: YES! Thank God for iPads and Hooplah Kids and Busy Beavers videos on YouTube!! I actually downloaded a few 30 minute episodes of each and found an app that allows me to play them looped. Such a great tool to distract them. When its bath time, I leave one in his crib watching while I bathe the other.
Q: What were your pregnancy snack cravings?
A: Ha. Banana flavored popsicles! Craving one right now!!!
Q: What aspect of motherhood did you not expect?
A: I stayed informed on the changes my body and mind will go through during and after pregnancy so there’s nothing I didn’t expect in that regard. However!! I didnt expect that once the twins were born, I would feel this unimaginable love and adoration for them. That truly did hit me like a wrecking ball. They really are a blessing!
A: Get information and read, keep labor and delivery expectations low, relax, drink lots of water, ignore negative comments about pregnancy. Just enjoy the experience and be happy!
Thanks Loni!!
